Congregation Life
Our congregation is part of the national Church of Scotland but we welcome Christians from all traditions as well as those who are simply interested.
Although we have two church buildings we worship as a single congregation. The church in Kilmuir is the second church building after the primary school travelling north. The Church in Staffin (Stenscholl) is situated by the Kilmartin River in the centre of the village. Services alternate each week(as indicated in the What's Page).
Our form of worship gives prominence to the preaching of God's word as we believe that it is through the Bible that God tells us how we may know Him and what he requires of us.
You will discover that we love to sing and our items of praise usually consist of a metrical psalm, a hymn, a contemporary worship song and psalm presented in Gaelic (reflecting our strong Gaelic tradition). On the last Sunday of the month the evening service is conducted Gaelic.
Young people are very much part of our worship. You will be greeted by one of our teenagers as you come in and our young people often participate in the public readings of the bible.
Sunday school children (5-11) and bible class (high school age) join us for the first 20 minutes during which there is a children's talk. Thereafter they go to there own classes. For those under 5 there is a creche available. In Staffin this is situated in the manse (the first house immediately before the church) and in Kilmuir this is in the church hall.
Family services are held six times a year and give opportunity for a high level of involvement by our young people. Congregational meals are also held regularly in the Kilmuir church hall.
After the service we hope to greet you and in Kilmuir we gather over a cup of tea in the hall immediately after the service. The Minister is always pleased to speak to anyone regarding the content of the message.
On Wednesdays at 7.30pm we meet for bible study, prayer and fellowship. These meetings alternate between home groups and central gatherings in Staffin and Kilmuir churches and visitors are always very welcome. There is a youth fellowship for teenagers meeting on Saturday nights at 7.30pm.
